Terre Haute Reunion Wraps Up

The 29th annual Tarvin Family Association reunion wrapped up Saturday evening in Terre Haute, Indiana. Family members from 14 states had gathered to learn about their Indiana cousins and have fun together. At Saturday's banquet, the auction of family crafts and memorabilia earned money for the association's genealogy projects. This year's beautiful quilt was won by Blanche Tribby of Mesa, Arizona, Line 11.

Next year's reunion is being planned for Texas. Stay tuned for more details.

Tarvins Photograph Tombstones

Tarvin family members attending the reunion in Terre Haute spent Friday afternoon photographing local cemeteries in support of the Wabash Valley Genealogical Society's effort to document these cemeteries. The photographs will be uploaded to Find A Grave where they will be available to the general public.

This service project will assist people to find the grave of their ancestor by using the Internet and will help preserve the information on the headstones that are rapidly deteriorating due to age and weather.

Cemeteries documented include the Bee Ridge Cemetery and the Old Hill Cemetery in Clay County, near Brazil, Indiana. Both cemeteries contain the graves of Tarvin ancestors who came to the area in the 1850's and their neighbors.

Tarvin Book Report

At the 2010 Tarvin Family Reunion, Gary Hoffman reported that the book committee has been busy preparing several books on the following lines: Line 11, Line 12, and Line 5. We hope to restart work on the Line 4 book as well.

Sales of the Line 1 book have exhausted the supply. Gary introduced a CD version of that book which will be available immediately. This joins the Line 10 Book on CD. Line 3 and Line 7 books are still available in hard bound format, but they are moving quickly.

Next year in Terre Haute

At the conclusion of the reunion in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, Tarvin Family Association president Ken Tarvin announced that next year's event will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana, an area that is home to many Tarvins of Line 10 plus some from other lines, including William. Great Reunion Concludes

Another Tarvin family reunion has just concluded. This was the best attended reunion ever. Over 120 cousins participated over the course of the three-day event. It had all you could ask for in a reunion: cemeteries, genealogy libraries, historical excursions, lots of food and family fun, plus the auction of memorabilia and the raffling of the Tarvin quilt.

2010 Reunion Planned for Northern Kentucky

The Tarvin reunion committee has announced the dates for this year's reunion. It will be held October 7th, 8th and 9th, 2010 in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, at the Drawbridge Inn. This Northern Kentucky area is Tarvin "ground zero," the area where Rev. George Tarvin's thirteen children raised their families and many descendants still live. It will be a treat to visit this area and get to know some Tarvin cousins.
